At least it is paint and not some other 'effluent' (as in Pierro Manzoni). Most Conceptual Art of the day did away with paint on canvas, the traditional way. One artist of that day, at a lecture/talk at our campus declared that " there are only a handful of people in this world that understand my work". What was the "work" he referred to? At our gallery he employed art students to paint the walls in layers of different colors. Once done he went to one corner of the room and scratched through the paint with a pocket knife. He called his work "EXPOSING". My take on this, and this was my answer: "Art is a form of communication. If your art is understood only by a few people in this world, then it stands to reason that you are not a good communicator!"
