The cowboy stood at the bottom of the porch step with his hands in the air. He eyed the shotgun on the rancher woman's lap.
"I get the feelin' you arent happy to see me?"
She glared hesitantly at him.
"Depends on why you came back... and why you stayed away so long." She said, the fire of anger in her eyes mingling with hurt.
The hard cowboy's dusty, trail calloused heart broke just a bit as he saw that pain in her amber eyes.
"Well now," he said, taking a tentative step higher on the porch stair. "I broke my leg a month back. Was laid up till just a couple days ago." She saw the wince on his face as he took another step and her heart melted a bit.
"As to why I came back? I love you, Rosie. I'd like a chance to prove it to you. Can I come up on the porch, honey?"
--"I'd hafta decide first." Rosie's eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
"On...?"--
"On whether I'm gonna shoot you or kiss you."
