The Mountain and the Monolith

The camp was found abandoned, fire pit dead with plates of food undisturbed next to it, tents and sleeping bags open as if someone had just gotten up and walked away... all that was found by way of explanation was a single camcorder. Videos of friends hiking and joking and beautiful vistas. But towards the end the contents became increasingly bizarre and... frightening. They became more convinced something was... hunting them. A mountain lion, a bear? Or something worse? The frame in the video before the recording abruptly stopped showed a mysterious figure, and played a strange sound. Those that heard it, even over aged, crackly recording, reacted violently, attemtping to break their way out of the room in which they were watching the video--through a solid concrete wall. When they woke up with broken fingernails and bloody knuckles, they had no recollection of what had happened the last 5 minutes. All they remembered was an image, a monolith in the forest...
