CARONTE ( CHARON ) -
He was the ferryman of the souls of the dead in Greek and Roman mythology. He was a minor deity, the son of Erebus (primordial darkness) and Night, and his task was to transport the dead from one bank of the river Acheron (or Styx, in some versions) to the other to lead them to Hades, the realm of the dead.
