Cassia carries a battered camera obscura that does not simply capture images. It steals evidence, the kind that lingers after a scream stops, the kind that doesn’t show up in lamplight unless you know where to look. Her moonstone monocle glows when spirits are near, and her fingers are permanently stained with silver nitrate from developing photographs in alleyway darkness. The pictures she makes are wrong in subtle ways: shadows that don’t match their owners, faces half-erased, a figure in the corner that no witness remembers seeing. Cassia moves through rain-slick streets with a soft step and a hard gaze, bargaining in secrets, cutting truths into clean angles, and leaving behind only the click of a shutter and the chill of something unseen.
