During the years the raccoons used to visit me at my last home (we owned), it wasn't rare at all. But I ALWAYS considered it a privilege. Sometimes they'd come just to visit. Other times, they hoped for food (hungry nursing mamas). There's lots of raccoons in our area but most people don't see them as they're secretive and mostly come out at night when no one's around. But my place was a "safe zone" for them - a very large backyard, long and not a lot wider than the width of the house (just a narrow width of grass and trees along either side). Both long sides were fenced with branch-y cedars inside the fenced part, house and shed at one narrow end, and at the other end, the ground rose sharply so no alley and overrun with small shrubs, young trees and tangles of blackberry vines. "My" raccoons loved it. So did stray cats, occasional skunks and opossums, occasional coyotes (non-native!) and once, a deer and older fawn!! And I loved it! A tiny paradise in an urban setting. 🥰

I so SO very much miss them. They always brightened my day 🌞 (or night 🌝) when they visited.
