“Thank you, Tyra,” Helena replied. She turned to Colonel Larkin. “Colonel, there is a scenic spot about a half a klick out of the village. May I go and pray there?” 

Larkin thought for a moment as he looked at his watch. It was 17:30. “How long are you going to be gone?”

“About 30 minutes. Father Anslem asked me to give a meditation after Evensong,” Helena replied. 

“Request granted. Take your radio and your Zat with you.”

“Thank you, sir.” Helena left for her quarters to change into her habit and transferred her radio and her Zat to her satchel along with a prayer book she had received from Mother Superior on the day she entered Carmel. Its title was *Manual for Christians* but the sisters called it *The Manual*.


Sister Helena went to the scenic spot and sat down on a rock. She thought about what she wanted to say to the villagers in her meditation. There were people enslaved by a Goa’uld who claimed to be the devil. They had lived in fear for a thousand years, but now in freedom, they were still living in fear, scrupulosity. Helena defined it. She recalled her encounter with Alban a few days earlier; one thought for them was condemnation to the demons. These people needed hope, redemption.

“*Holy Mother Church has weathered these storms in ages past and has triumphed*,” Helena thought, “*What can I do?*” She knew she needed to help them. “*Nourish us*,” Maerwynn had told her in their earliest communications. What could she nourish them with?



“Saints of Carmel, come to my assistance!” Helena cried out in prayer, “Help me to Nourish your lost people! They have been lost for so long.” She sat in silence for a time. Then it occurred to her. Father Crooker had often spoken of Divine Mercy to heal a scrupulous soul. It had helped her in the early days of her conversion, while she was still in Leavenworth. And it was a group of lay Carmelites who visited her in prison that taught her the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The people of Eversham had never heard of it or Saint Faustina. 


Larkin sighed. “We don’t have weeks. Tyra, we have a Goa’uld invasion imminent. Can’t you just beam the Naquadah out of her?” 

“Oh, I wish I was that simple, Marcus. But we can't do that at this time,” Laikin let out another sigh.
Tyra turned to Helena, “How do you feel currently, with the inhibitor?” she asked.

“I feel fine, Tyra,” Helena replied. “No headaches to report.” She paused. “I agree with the Colonel. We should wait until the crisis has passed.”

“Well, thanks for coming out here, Tyra,” Larkin said. “I’ve talked with your CO about you staying here for the time being and he agrees with me. We may need you to treat any casualties we may have.”

“Spoken like a true boy scout, old scallywag,” said Tyra. “I'll set up camp here.” She turned to Helena, “You can go now, Sister.”
