The Monarch population is a bit larger than it has been in the past few years, but really meager in comparison to previous numbers. Still they were beautiful to see and mesmerizing as they flit through the groves.  I have a memory (from around 1969) of seeing them covering a whole grove of eucalyptus along the cliffs of Capitola in at least the tens of thousands . . . now it is a joy to see a few clusters
