Lis took a defiant stance against the Warlock and replied,
"Whatever the koan is and is capable of, you can tell me, instead of standing there looking devlishly handsome and menacing."
The warlock cocked an eyebrow, but did not respond.
"If you know why we're here and what we came for, you know I intend to use it only to stop a great evil, Leoni Keln. My master Motoman Nine Eyes says the Sorcerer King of Dered is only more insane and evil than he is powerful. If Haldyne is to be free of his machinations, we need a means to neutralize his magic. That is why we have come."
The warlock gazed at her silently, then turned and walked back into the smoke without a word. The smoke parted and a whirling doorway of light stood open, and through it, a gnome sat by a shoreline. She beckoned them forward. Lis and Mengara approached cautiously.
"I am Bedelia. I rule here. If you seek a token of the koan, as I have been told, and you are worthy to bear it, which of these jewels is it?"
