There's a huge series of kid's books with a huge fanbase about cats living in communal groups in the wild, called Warriors, by Erin Hunter. These cats have tribal customs including communion with ancestors said to live in a paradise called StarClan. The Warrior cats disdain house cats, calling them "kittypets" which is a sort of slur implying they're lazy. Even though I was born in 1965 I've read dozens of these books, which are really quite intelligent.
The idea of a kittypet StarClan came to me because I don’t like to say that cats who pass away "cross the Rainbow Bridge" since that little story suggests ALL pets who die go there, and although some cats and dogs are convivial, not all are. I wanted the house cats to have their own StarClan so I created it.
