The Lascelles Family at Harewood House ​

The first stone of Harewood House was laid with a fortune built on unimaginable suffering. While the Lascelles family commissioned the finest artists and lived in lavish, sunlit halls, thousands of enslaved men, women, and children toiled on their Caribbean sugar estates. Each mahogany carving and silk curtain in their beautiful English mansion was paid for by the sweat, blood, and constant fear of people who were never truly free, their lives ground down to produce the very sweetness that defined the family's luxury.
