Sparkling Violetear hummingbird

The Sparkling Violetear is a stunning hummingbird native to the Andes mountains. Its iridescent green plumage is accentuated by a dazzling violet-blue throat and chest patch, along with expandable ear coverts of the same hue. This medium-sized hummingbird, measuring 13-15 cm, boasts a slightly curved bill and forked tail. Known for its aggressive nature, it thrives in diverse habitats from Venezuela to Bolivia, ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 meters in elevation. Adaptable to human presence, it can be found in open woodlands, forest edges, and even urban gardens, where it often visits feeders, delighting observers with its vibrant display.
