Persephone, victim of the unwanted attentions of Hades (Pluto for you Roman Buffs), forced into marriage by threats and trickery. Her Mother, Demeter, who was so upset that her daughter had to spend three months a year in Hades realm, made all the plants stop growing and die (you can thank Hades for winter). But in her own way, Persephone is no better: wherever she walks, plants are forced to bloom under her feet, no matter the season.
