Have you ever heard or read about cenotes? They're deep underground limestone pits/sinkholes filled with water with an opening above. Some are even connected to caves that are filled with water and people can scuba dive in (which can be VERY dangerous so special training and permission is needed). Anyway, I'm mentioning this because the Mayan viewed some as sacred and both people and valuable objects were sacrificed in them. I wonder if Maya was meant to be one of their sacrificial victims but as she was dropped in, the priests were amazed to see her hair turn to gold just like some of other valuables they dropped in at the same time and then as she swam off, the glimpsed her shining scales as she flipped her now fish tail at them! 🧜‍♀️😳
