Best Friends Forever... Part 10

I tried to call her house the next day, but no one answered.

Was she avoiding me?

Maybe she just needed time to cool off...

I went by a few days later to see if I could just talk to her in person. Work things out. Beg for forgiveness if I had to. At the very least, give her her phone back...

No one was home.

No cars in the driveway. No sign of life through the windows... was her dad out of town on business again? Where was her stepmom? I sat on her porch half the day, waiting.

Still, no one came.

What if something had happened? Did Trevor do something? One of his cruel jokes gone too far? All the worst-case scenarios were running through my mind.

My parents started to notice my distress.

I told them we'd had a fight. Dad was sympathetic, but like many dads, he was unsure of how to handle the emotions of a teenage girl. Mom was... well, mom. She said it was probably for the best, that I should find better friends who were more... normal.

I felt like I was losing my mind.
