Reading was such a wonderful escape!  Beautiful!

Thank you. It certainly was ( and is! ) for me! I actually read most of the books in the kids section at the library in my small town, and I was explaining to my mom about that, so she loaned me HER card, and the librarian got all authoritarian on me, and wouldn't let me check out the books. ( Can you imagine being a librarian who doesn't want a kid to read??) My mom had been doing errands or something, and when she came back and saw I had no books, she went right into that library, insisted on speaking to whomever was in charge, and damned if she didn't get me an adult library card that day! Of course, at that age, I wasn't thinking about how wonderful my mom was that day, walking in and demanding I get an adult library card, the whole scene just mortified me!  But I sure was happy to get that library card! And, so, I've always loved books and reading... And even libraries! LoL

Wonderful story!  Your mom sounds formidable!  I always loved libraries, one of them was absolutely gorgeous, I wish I could recreate it. In jr. high i had a book from home that was falling apart, so I asked the librarian for some tape. She gave me the evil eye because the book had a gay character, no doubt. This was in the 1970 s. I can’t remember the name of the book. It might have been a play.
