“You sure about this?” Kenji asked, walking over from his spot by the tool bench. He’d been keeping a quiet eye on Will’s work, nodding in approval as he saw the changes his friend had made.

Will smirked. “Yeah, I’m sure. This time, it’s different.”

Kenji leaned against the car, crossing his arms. “You’ve changed. That ride with your dad, it did something, didn’t it?”

Will nodded, wiping the sweat from his forehead. “It wasn’t just the ride. It was the way he talked about control. I thought it was all about speed—about going as fast as possible—but it’s more than that.”

Kenji gave a small, approving smile. “Good. Then show them tonight. You ready?”

Will glanced at his car one last time, feeling the hum of the engine beneath his fingertips. “More than ready.”

The night air was thick with anticipation as Will rolled into the familiar lot behind the garages, his Supra’s engine purring like a wild animal ready to be unleashed. The crowd was bigger this time—word had gotten around about the rematch between him and Sho. The tension in the air was palpable, the hum of engines echoing off the walls, the distant buzz of neon lights casting a faint glow over the scene.

The sound of clinking tools and the low hum of an engine filled the garage as Will leaned under the hood of his Toyota Supra, his hands working with a focus he hadn’t felt in a long time. The smell of gasoline and engine oil lingered in the air, but this time, it wasn’t just the excitement of racing pushing him forward—it was precision.

After that flight with his father, Will saw everything differently. It wasn’t about raw speed or winning at all costs. It was about control, about knowing his limits and the limits of his machine.
