Yeah, it was rough. This is from May 1977 and they're haggling over an August 1972 New York Times.
By 1975, you couldn't sell a Pet Rock or a Swedish magazine to save your life!

Well some people like to remember back to August 1972, before your President Richard Nixon (of whom David Bowie was keen in subsequent years to remind us) had all those legal difficulties... for what...? Something we in Britain view as a minor act of burglary where nothing was taken. In fact their intention was to leave valuable audio equipment. In any just world that's a six-month suspended sentence max.
Beame and Koch really did a number on that town, I tell you what.
