I mistook surviving for living.
Existing for becoming. Breathing for belonging.
I kept searching for horizons, never questioning
why they always moved every time I got close.
Then life did what mercy often disguises as cruelty...it took away every place I thought I belonged until I had nowhere left to stand
but inside myself. That's when I discovered
the greatest exile was never from the world.
It was from the woman I'd abandoned
trying to become who everyone else could love.
The horizon never owed me a destination.
It owed me a revelation.
