I think this image is disturbing to people because the little girl is alone and the center of a lot of negative attention. To her back (representing the subconscious) are those nameless monstrous things which watch from the shadows. Even an 99% extravert might fear being the singled out like that, so its a challenging image. Not one that you can merely safely enjoy on the basis of some aesthetic merit.
Came to see the original from Facebook, you upscaled/enhanced the centre image, I take it? It adds detail but in voting screen that might be lost as only a fraction of the resolution of the full size on my 16" laptop. The voting screen seems optimised for no more than 4:3 or 3:4 or therabouts, not 16:9 or 9:16 as those always appear less clear. Not sure how they appear to the many who use a smartphone for NC though, as that would be a far smaller screen than I use.
