Valerius considered the offer, the weight of Dia’s warning and Alec’s unsettling words hanging over him. Yet, the opportunity was too valuable to dismiss. Moreover, the Kingdom's stability was at stake.

He accepted the offer, brightening Alec's face. As they shook hands, Valerius felt uneasy, as doubt gnawed at the edges of his loyalty.
