Deldenda and others like her are able to survive only in verdant, humid forests. Her fae subclass, dryandria, is among the lowest of sentients in her realm, not due to lack of potential, but because 1) they survive their fledgling years only in the human realm and cannot transition into the fae realm until they've matured to the physical capacity of the average 20-year-old human, 2) they mature at a devastatingly slow rate, 3) very few have living adults available to help them survive the duration of their formative decades.

Dryandrians have limited language capacity for at least their first 80 seasons, at which time they have a vocabulary roughly equal to that of an average human 18-month-old. After 50-60 Earth years, dryandrians finally reach the mental and physical capacity of a nearly-mature human. If they are fortunate to have a teacher available, they will learn how to sense thin areas between realms. Once they can do this independently, they can finally see their true home.
