Somnambulism, commonly known as sleepwalking, is a sleep disorder characterized by complex behaviors performed while in a state of partial arousal from deep sleep. Affected individuals may walk, talk, or perform routine activities while appearing to be awake, but are actually unaware of their actions. While generally harmless, it can pose safety risks if the person engages in potentially dangerous activities. 

Episodes typically occur during the first third of the night and can last from a few minutes to half an hour. The exact cause is unknown, but factors like stress, sleep deprivation, and genetics may contribute.
