The child laughed so hard the grass seemed to shake with her as the little foal pressed its soft nose against her cheek. It was as if the foal had decided she was its new favorite human and needed to say so repeatedly. The meadow around them glowed with wildflowers and warm light, the stream bubbling nearby like it was cheering them on. She reached up to scratch the foal’s neck, and the foal responded by nudging her again — a tiny horse insisting on friendship. In that bright afternoon, the world felt simple: a child, a foal, and a meadow full of laughter.
