Cumara leads them deeper into the passageway, wary of traps like they had encountered in their earlier subterranean sojourns. The image of the crushed helmet, and the bone fragments that had clattered out of it, haunted his thoughts.
Ahead, a doorway loomed from the darkness, its dark rectangle ominously inviting exploration. Cumara knelt by the opening, noticing the spatters of still red blood just inside. Pushing his torch within, his eyes followed the crimson trail beyond to its source. His stomach clenched.
"What do you see?" Teceri asked.
"That we face two less adversaries," he replied grimly, "And possibly more, once we find a way past."
