The world record for the highest obstacle cleared by a horse and rider in equestrian high jump is 2.47 meters (8 ft 1 in), set by Captain Alberto Larraguibel Morales riding Huaso ex-Faithful on February 5, 1949 in Viña del Mar, Chile. The jump took place at an official international event and required two years of training and three attempts on the day. After hitting the top rail on their second attempt, Larraguibel and Huaso fell, but succeeded on their third try. The record still stands today.
