I noticed citing many artists in a row is difficult...usually the program takes the style of the first one on your prompt...

Weellll... sort of. I couldn't really tell you exactly what SDXL does with long artist lists, but my experience is that it often does lean pretty heavily on the first one or two artists for general layout. But it will definitely run the image through every style that you give it if it can make sense of how to do that. 

I don't do much with photography, that's why I just threw in a lot of artists here, but for the more artistic portraits I usually do, I always build the mixes up one artist at a time and I can tell exactly what each artist is contributing to the final product.

Just an experiment, throwing together a bunch of artists and asking for something random, essentially. I ran it once, and I'm taking what I got.
