Whimsical Fairy Lost in a Vibrant, Mystical World

The Fairy

The idea for this little unicorn series was brought on by something as simple and small as being triggered by being reminded of type of bubble gum I used to get as a child. I can't exactly remember how or why but I think it must be tied up into something my abuser must have given me. I was often "bribed" to keep quiet, and I suspect this is why a simple picture of the gum in the daily challenge yesterday created such a negative cascade of memories and feelings in my body.

I have mixed emotions around unicorns themselves but for whatever reason this idea just really resonated with me and gave me a sense of comfort and control of the emotions that normally in the past would have completely overwhelmed me. I am lucky to have gotten out of the situation when I did as a child and even more lucky now to have had the chance to receive really in depth treatment, that has gotten me to the point I can at least sometimes work my way through the thoughts, emotions and experiences as they arise.

A soft white unicorn stands guard against the dark memories of a traumatic past, its ethereal sparks and gentle pastels holding back the stark darkness of pain and trauma in a watercolor painting inspired by Symbolist art.
