**Part I. 1990:** Of course, all people are different. But Finni realized from an early age that in some respects he functioned completely differently from the majority of people he knew. Finni never actually *wanted* to be different, but he couldn't deny that he *was* different. It would take until 2023 before he managed to fathom all the aspects that caused this otherness. So there is still a long way to go from 1990. But it was in 1990 that his otherness caused problems for the first time. To clarify in advance: As it turned out in 2023, Finni is one of the approximately 15-20% of people who are described as highly sensitive persons. The central nervous system of these people shows a higher sensitivity and deeper cognitive processing towards social, physical and emotional stimuli.

**Part II. 1990:** This can have a variety of positive and negative effects on the individual. In Finni's case, this presumably had the following effects (among many others) on his life: Finni's brain took in more stimuli from his environment. This may have allowed him to perceive more details, which was very positive for learning processes and social interactions. This may be why he was such a good pupil at elementary school without ever having to make an effort. This was also positive for social relationships: Finni picked up on subtle signals of how his counterpart was feeling or when his counterpart changed (in character or appearance). People were often surprised when he asked them if they felt unwell or when he complimented them on their new clothes or when he was able to tell them where they had put their car keys.

**Part III. 1990:** However, high sensory processing sensitivity can also have disadvantages. Finni was often flooded with stimuli: larger groups or crowds always exhausted him without him knowing why. Although Finni also enjoyed being around people, he developed a high level of introversion. He needed hours of solitude each day to recover from larger social events. The swing in his old garden was his relaxation spot. He could become very angry if his thoughts were disturbed there. It stayed that way afterwards: If Finni was sitting somewhere alone or walking around, it was always advisable not to speak to him, but he himself and others didn't know this. In new situations, Finni always took longer than others to feel comfortable.
