In the year 2374, much of earth had been reclaimed by climate restoration sciences, humanity's focus had largely shifted out into the cosmos and the vast unexploited resources to be found. Earth became something of a quaint, vintage backwater, seat of somewhat irrelevant politics and a nostalgic tourist destination.
Jane Goodridge found a use for climate technology by building replica vintage towns and city facades and destroying them in reenactments of infamous tragedies, such as the tornado that leveled the little town of Hadleyville.
Each Saturday at dusk, tourists would crowd around behind protective geodesic domes to watch the new reenactment. Tornado Jane they called her, not just in the literal sense but in how she managed to whip up new locations to destroy each week. She was making a decent living in the art of historical reenactments, but it was a pretty niche market and speculators were happy to leave her to it.
