Its skin was an unnatural shade of gray, and its tusks curved like wicked scimitars.

Terror flooded Lily's veins. She spun on her heel. The trumpeted sound echoed through the silent trees. Lily didn't dare look back, her heart was like a frantic drum. "Mom, Dad, please save me."

Apparently Tusk didn't appreciate the artistic freedom. With a disgruntled trumpet, it charged into the nearby peafowl enclosure, sending a flurry of feathers and indignant squawks in its wake. As it vanished into a dense fog, Bruno watched in horror. Poof! Tusk disappeared.

"Oh, no," Bruno whimpered while clutching his paintbrush. "I just painted a living Van Gogh into a cloud! How do I explain this to the zoo director?"

He sighed, already picturing the headlines: "Local Artist Paints Elephant Into Oblivion. Claims 'It Was Just a Phase.'"
