The Rusalka is a spirit of Slavic folklore, often the ghost of a drowned woman, lost to betrayal, suicide, or sorrow. She haunts rivers, lakes, and marshes, her form pale and beautiful, with long hair and eyes that never quite belong.
She sings from the reeds at dusk, her voice soft and sad, drawing wanderers to the water’s edge. If they answer, if they reach, she may smile, take their hand, and pull them silently below.
Once, Rusalki were fertility spirits who danced in fields to bless the harvest. But over time they became omens, grief made visible, love turned cold and hungry. They are not evil, only bound. The water holds what the world could not.
