From the writings of Motoman Nine Eyes
Most wizards of Haldyne fall into one of two categories, unaffiliated hermits and high positioned servants to royalty and other leige lords.
Mercenaries like Avatstigorom, the self proclaimed "Eldritcher," are rare, largely because a wizard is a figure of might, evoking of fear and resentment, that they live much longer if they either stay away from others or have guards about them to watch their backs.
Also, one assumes a certain amount of wisdom from the practitioners of magics, which, well, Avatstigorom simply does not possess. Power was a means to the thrill of adventure and acquisition of wealth to him, but his expansive ego would never allow him to take orders long.
Here he is displaying his abilities to a wealthy prospective client for a dangerous clash between feuding lords. You can see he has a certain flare for dramatics.
I somewhat regret having trained him, he's occasionally useful, occasionally a liability.
