Wow. We don’t have crickets (that I’m aware of) in our country 

This one is (probably) fictitious.  It was as close as I've got so far to the "Parktown prawn" (*Libanasidus vittatus*).  These insects are woodland creatures, but Johannesburg is increasingly full of planted trees despite being in a grassland biome.  Of course people started seeing them a few decades ago, which led to a lot of mythology and even a stage performance.  They move into homes in search of water, and can give one quite a fright when startled.  Although harmless, they hiss and defecate, and often jump towards the threat.

Ah I see. Funny how when we change a habitat it can have unintended consequences. On a completely unrelated note it was assumed Ireland had only deciduous trees and that all coniferous trees were imported here. They found recently a sole cluster of coniferous trees in the karst region of the Burren which when examined were native to the region. They are now being cultivated as Ireland’s only native coniferous tree. The Burren region was devastated by modern agricultural methods
