I'm working on the theory that Peter Parker decided that when his teenage daughter started following in his superheroic footsteps by dressing up as the Amazing Spider-Girl, she *really needed* a very strong and durable sparring partner so that she could train to use her full strength in a fight without the high risk of maiming a friendly sparring partner with an unrestrained blow. So he either built this robot himself, or pulled strings with such old friends as Iron Man and Mister Fantastic.
