"And I accept that maybe it was partly my fault... I did steal the trinket that caused this whole thing. I fought the townsguard when I tried to escape punishment for my actions... but if someone needed to die for that, it wasn't him... it should've been me."
She glanced back down at him. He was still hanging on, but his eye was becoming unfocused.
"Funny thing is... even if I wanted to trade places with him or even join him, I'm not sure she would even let me anymore... but that's not your problem, is it? You're about to see the Lady for yourself."
She reached down to brush a strand of hair out of his face.
"I would say thank you for this, for giving me an excuse to break my promise, but... I don't feel like this has fixed anything or fulfilled that empty piece of my soul... all this blood on both of our hands, and all I feel is pity for you. You're just a sad, small man and now you're about to be judged for your actions in this life."
