WORTHY MOTHER
She glances at this crib of wood, Where once, as babe herself, she laid. Three decades past, well understood That time's a currency long paid. Her focus now spies on the child Tucked, nestled in this ancient bed. For though these dastard times be wild, Determined she will be instead To give her sire a life of worth, And lead her down a moral path. A life which justifies her birth, And fosters thoughts devoid of wrath. So glances she at her old crib, At this, her daughter, lacking hate. And with herself, she can be glib: There's worth in living a mother's fate.
