This creation was inspired by the protagonist in Mexican Gothic, written by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Noemi, a socialite in Mexico City, visits her married cousin in the mountainous countryside. Her cousin, who is ill, resides in a once-glorious Gothic mansion that presides over a deteriorating and impoverished mining town. Her cousin's husband's English family once ran the mine in its heyday; in the book's present, the 1950s, locals say the mansion and the area is cursed. In this scene, Noemi is walking in the town, looking for someone to help her find the answers to what her cousin's mysterious illness is and the curse.
