Redcaps are short, tough-looking old men with leathery skin, iron boots, and bright red hats. They wield oversized scythes and have wicked grins lined with sharp teeth. Standing 3 to 4 feet tall and weighing about 50 pounds, they are notorious for their evil nature, being mass-murdering psychotic killers who delight in causing pain. Their red hats are kept vividly colored by dipping them in the blood of their victims.

Redcaps prefer to inhabit old, abandoned keeps and towers, especially those vacated due to horrific tragedies. They gain strength and near invulnerability by absorbing the essence of every creature they kill. A redcap that manages to live a long life can amass tremendous power. Upon death, a redcap vanishes, leaving behind only a single tooth. They are known to speak Common and Sylvan​
