Part XXVI -- Reason

“What makes you think we’d accept traitors as Prime and Second?” A swarthy woman asked, sneering. She folded her arms across her chest, her stance cocky.

Tyelion barked an incredulous laugh. “Traitors?” He turned in a circle, meeting the eyes of those around him. “Is that how you see us?”

The few Daerfall soldiers present shifted their weight uneasily, hands clenched around the hilts of their weapons as they glanced at the rogues around them.

“You abandoned us.” The woman replied. “Left us all in this cold, dark city to suffer under the mercies of the mage while you and the Shadow Thief relaxed in freedom and warmth.”

Tyelion faced her, studying her. “I know your face,” he said. “You were part of Yanix’s old gang. Mynerva, was it?”

She nodded warily. “Aye, that was me. I’m the only one left of that gang now. The lone survivor.”

Tyelion bowed his head. “I’m sorry. Truly. I… looked up to Yanix.”
