Holy Saturday – Easter #7

Greetings! I've opened a new Community Challenge that I hope will become a welcoming space to share religious art. I would like to invite your help in getting it started by asking for your participation. Thank you! https://nightcafe.art/?join=xD1Ez&ru=Contemplation

There's some controversy on whether the guards were Roman or Jewish. The term soldier(s) is used.

Matthew 27:62-66 [NIV]

The Guard at the Tomb

The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

“Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

Saturday Mourning

As accurate a picture as possible of Jesus' tomb seen from the outside, with the stone in front and a weeping woman in front. Very beautiful and in water colors with uneven edges. There is a garden right by the tomb, and the stone, a round carved stone, closes the tomb opening.
